Our client, Watford Community Housing, are looking for a Senior Independent Director to join the team.

Senior Independent Director – About the Organisation:

WCH deliver a range of high-quality housing management and property services that their customers rely on. They are also a trusted partner to other organisations including local authorities and developers as well as manage homes for other housing providers.

Their mission is to deliver for their customers and their communities. They own and manage more than 6,800 homes and associated assets and they will complete a further 1,580 new homes by March 2025.

Senior Independent Director – The Role:

As part of their Group succession planning, they are now recruiting for a Senior Independent Director to help them deliver their ambitious five-year Business Plan.

In an increasingly complex and competitive operating environment, they are looking for excellent non-executive leadership to ensure good governance, to challenge them constructively and appropriately, and to help them deliver on their People Strategy.

Strong and effective governance is vital to the success of their business, and you’ll play a key role in this as their Senior Independent Director, who chairs their Remuneration and Appraisal Committee (RAC).

As their Senior Independent Director, you will be responsible for:

- Acting as a dedicated senior Board member with duties that include the appraisal of the Chair and assisting the Chair to ensure the effectiveness of the Board, in line with the National Housing Federation’s Code of Governance
- You’ll provide leadership and help WCH to form strategy based on their principles as a Community Gateway housing association, ensuring that the needs and interests of customers are central in their decision-making
- Championing Equality, Diversity and Culture, and Workforce for the Group Board

Senior Independent Director – You:

- Commitment to social and affordable housing
- Ability to think strategically, absorbing large amounts of complex information in supporting good decision-making
- Ability to influence and negotiate
- Passionate about Equality and Diversity
- Strong background in governance
- Understanding of the different roles of the non-executive and executive directors, and experience in non-executive positions
- Ideally CIPD-qualified
- Experience of leading a committee or team, whether in a voluntary or paid capacity
